Subject: Wood burning stoves and vegy gardens
Forum Friends,
This is not such a weighty matter but ---
Some time ago I was involved (Peace Corps & YWAM ) in the research and development of a wood burning stove made from clay and sand.
The stove proved to be beneficial for communities that used wood to cook with as it burned 30 - 40% less fuel. It also was helpful for families that cooked on open fires in the home as it has a stove pipe that goes through the roof. The project led to reforestation of local wood recourses.
During that season of comm-dev appropriate technology development we also worked with Dr. J.R. Mittleider's grow box gardens and were able to dramatically increase our vegetable and herb production while only using a fraction of the space.
Both of these projects were welcomed and duplicated by the communities involved. I know that this is old stuff but if there is any interest in these topics it would be great fun to communicate with you about them.
For Christ,
